"I fell in love with the Mapex kit at UK Drum Show 2025 in Liverpool—its perfect sound and response fueled my set. Mapex Drums have been my ideal stage partner ever since, from Mumbai Drum Day 2026 to every gig. Their powerful, precise kits let my prog-rock grooves shine with unmatched clarity. Grateful for the incredible sound!"
Sanidhya Das: India’s Next Wave of Prog-Rock Drumming India’s next wave of prog-rock drumming is already here — and he’s still not even 12. Born on 10 April 2014 in Bengaluru, Sanidhya Das has built an extraordinary journey behind the kit, progressing from tapping rhythms on kitchen utensils at 13 months old to owning his first junior acoustic drum kit at just 2.5 years of age. What began as childhood curiosity, fueled by inspiration from drummers like Matt McGuire and Casey Cooper, quickly evolved into a serious musical path shaped with consistent guidance and encouragement from his father. By the age of 10.1, Sanidhya had achieved what many drummers dream of for years — he cleared Trinity College London Grade 8 Rock & Pop Drums with distinction on his very first attempt. That milestone placed him in rare company, reflecting not just technical ability, but discipline, musical maturity, and an advanced sense of timing far beyond his years. His list of accomplishments continues to grow. He is a four-time inter-school Drum-o-mania champion, winner of Lulu Funtura Little Star 2024 after competing against 500+ children across music, dance, and performing arts, runner-up at Spardha Idol 2023 in the under-15 instrumentalist category, a three-time school instrumental champion, ForceGW Young Tumbler winner, and Best Drummer at November Reign in The RAFT, Bangalore. But Sanidhya’s story is defined just as much by the stage as by the trophy shelf. In 2024, he became the youngest artist ever to perform at the iconic Mahindra Independence Rock in Mumbai, appearing with Indian rock pioneers Indus Creed on “Dissolve” and “No Disgrace” before a packed festival crowd. He also performed with them earlier at Fandom Bengaluru, proving that his presence on stage is the result of genuine musicianship, not novelty. His live résumé already includes performances at Hard Rock Cafe with Parikrama, Fandom with Indus Creed and Junkyard Groove, the Let There Be Guitar showcase, and shared appearances with 2Blue. He has also performed on heavier platforms such as Hellstorm Fest and Eternal Dominion II, and is currently part of the power metal band VAL. In February 2026, he added another major milestone by performing at Mumbai Drum Day 2026, one of India’s most respected drum festivals, further cementing his reputation as one of the most promising young drummers in the country. His international breakthrough came in October 2025, when at just 11.5 years old, Sanidhya travelled to Liverpool, UK, and became the first Indian drummer to perform on the Main Stage Mini at The UK Drum Show, one of the world’s most respected drum platforms. His three-song set — “Your Betrayal” by Bullet For My Valentine, “Legion” by TesseracT, and “Anesthetize” by Porcupine Tree — was a bold statement of intent, showcasing his command over progressive rock and metal through polyrhythms, odd time signatures, and intricate transitions. During the event, he also met and received appreciation from drumming heroes including Gavin Harrison, Jay Postones, Brandon Toews, and Todd Sucherman. Stylistically, Sanidhya sits at the intersection of progressive rock, modern metal, and gospel-influenced drumming. His playing combines polyrhythms, metric modulation, linear phrasing, and strong dynamic control, while always keeping the song at the center. His influences include Gavin Harrison, Jay Postones, Chris Coleman, Sleep Token II, Gino Banks, and Jai Row Kavi, along with bands such as Porcupine Tree, TesseracT, Sleep Token, Periphery, Linkin Park, and Indus Creed. The wider music scene has already begun to take notice. Sanidhya has been featured by Drummerworld and profiled by Rolling Stone India, while online he continues to build a growing audience through YouTube and Instagram with a mix of focused studio performances and explosive live clips. On the home front, respected musicians including Salim Merchant, Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, Raj Pandit, Ranjit Barot, and Taufiq Qureshi have publicly acknowledged his potential. At just 11, Sanidhya is already thinking long-term — more session work, eventually forming his own band, and continuing to push toward bigger international stages. If this is what the beginning looks like, the next decade could be very loud.
