"I play Mapex because of the superior quality, of sound...looks...and durability. I love the Mapex family and everything it stands for. Constantly trying to make great GREATER!"
What started out as a punishment…or so he thought….turned into a lifetime of dedication to an art form. Johannes Greer, born and raised in Nashville, TN started out playing nothing but sports. Until one day his Mother and Aunt decided he was going to be in band! Placed against his will in the Father Ryan Irish Guard Marching Band on cymbals, he decided that if he was going to have to be in band, at least he was going to play a COOL instrument! So watching the snare line at practice was all that it took for him to be hooked for the rest of his life.
Johannes spent three years in the Father Ryan band, playing cymbals, snare, and tenors in that time. The drumline and band during that time received many awards and accolades that set the bar of excellence very high. The summer of his senior year, owner of Innovative Percussion and drum community legend, Eric Johnson, took Johannes the Night Express Drum and Bugle Corps, where Johannes spent a short time, along with a short appearance in WGI line Music City Mystique.
In the fall of that year, Johannes began attending Tennessee State University and joined the Aristocrat of Bands, where the became the section leader his sophomore year. He spent five years at TSU studying Biology and Music Education and Performance. During these five yrs, Johannes was the head of percussion at Nashville’s Brentwood Academy and University School of Nashville. He spent eight years at BA and four years at USN writing the shows, warm ups, and instructing the lines. During this time, he also started his drum set career by playing in the Nashville based band MINK.
MINK recorded a few demos and ultimately what became the first full length album that Johannes would ever record. MINK went on to tour the US and did 4 Department of Defense tours. In doing this the band landed the title of being the 1st American rock band to play in Afghanistan. After many years together, the members of MINK went their own creative ways. Johannes at that point joined new to Nashville band LIGION. Within a short time, LIGION signED a deal with Grammy Award winning producer Greg Ladayni (who had worked with Toto, Jackson Brown) and Maple Jam Records. They release a record called “External Affairs” and tour with the likes of: Saliva, Crossfade, Three Days Grace, Velvet Revolver, Sevendust, Stone Temple Pilots, and many more.
After LIGION Johannes went on to play drums for rap-rockers Hot Action Cop, whom he continuously playing drums for, along with starting a band called Adalene. Shortly after starting Adalene though, powerhouse producer/songwriter Zac Maloy, (formally of The Nixons), recruited Johannes for a project he was developing called STRIKE FIRST which is now taking up most of his time. They are currently recording a record that should hit airwaves sometime in 2012 and have been touring with the likes of Theory of a Deadman and Candlebox. Since then Johannes has played for country artists..Sam Hunt, Lewis Brice, Voice winner Craig Wayne Boyd. Has also played with rap artist Bubba Sparxxx, rock bands Tantric, Sin Shake Sin, and The Infamous HER, and pop artist Debbie Gibson.
