Artist Bio:

The passing on of the ever-present drumming philosophy named after Jims Mentor Sanford Moeller could hardly be in better hands - especially if Jim Chapin being the undisputed master of this technique puts out a quote like this. Besides being an in-demand clinician and performer, Claus is writing educational columns for the German drums & percussion magazine and iPad App - just as also contributing to the Modern Drummer as a member of the MD education team. His educational packages Open Handed Playing Vol.I + II (released with Wizdom Media/Alfred Publishing; co-authored by Dom Famularo and with prefaces by Billy Cobham, Simon Philipps, Will Kennedy and Kenny Aronoff) gained worldwide recognition including a four-star review in the Modern Drummer and have been nominated Best Educational Book 2013. His book Daily Drumset Workout went to 3rd printing in less than a year from its original release and is available in German and English as well - also being nominated for Best Educational Book in the UK. Claus individual style is defined as a mixture of stunning technical skills, ostinato-work and open-handed playing - bridging the gap between just drums and real-world musical applications. His appearances at international drummer meetings include sharing stage with players like Steve Smith, Alex Acuna, Dom Famularo, Walfred Reyes Jr., percussion fame Luis Conte, Johnny Rabb and standing ovations at PASIC, Indianapolis. In Germany, Claus maintains a busy teaching schedule including the University for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt; he is also the first European drumset player to be honored with a Distinguished Professor degree at Keimyung University in Daegu, South Korea. His live and studio credits include touring with Grammy Award winning vocal group New York Voices just as recording with Mike Stern, Stings Dominic Miller and Rhani Krija, African balafon great Mamadou Diabate, or German organ virtuoso Barbara Dennerlein to name just a few. His clinics feature an entertaining mix of displaying his musical and drumistic skills while passing on drumming techniques - not to forget about the history of drumming with an eye towards the future. Sabian Cymbals has created the HH Garage Ride in collaboration with Claus, he also endorses Mapex Drums, Evans Drumheads, Vic Firth Sticks, and Gon Bops Percussion.
